Many consider The March on Washington to be the apex of momentum for the Civil Rights Movement. There was a lot that had to come together to make the March successful, including divisions African American organizations as a result of differences in approach. The SCLC, CORE and NAACP put aside their differences and this resulted in a collaboration between the six established fighters for freedom. They were a veritable force - highly organized and reputable, with a long reach into the Black community nationwide. It is estimated that 250,000 people gathered to rally Congress into addressing their demands.
